ICAST 2019 – Where’s the Catfish Stuff?
I joined 14,500 other folks in Orlando, FL last week as a record number of company booths displayed their wares to the fishing industry. The event was ICAST 2019 and the venue was the Orange County Convention Center during the July 8-12 time period.
The gathering is produced annually by the American Sportfishing Association (ASA). ASA is a national, non-profit trade association of more than 800 members working together to promote sportfishing while driving recreational fishing product sales.
ICAST is billed as the world’s largest sportfishing trade show. An important feature of the show is the New Product Showcase where the latest innovations in fishing gear, accessories, and apparel are displayed in a competitive environment that leads to naming the best new products in several categories and an overall “Best of Show.” (The winners can be viewed by clicking here.)
ASA President Glenn Hughes said, “Across the board, this was a record-breaking year for ICAST, proving, once again, that ICAST is the cornerstone for the entire sportfishing industry. This was the largest year yet for ICAST in both the number of exhibitors and the number of registrants.”
My goal at ICAST 2019 was to find as many catfish related products as I could. First, I wanted to report on the available products and secondly, I wanted to identify and recognize the companies. Although not in an organized way, those companies displaying catfish products at the show were promoting the catfish community to a large audience and should be recognized for it. I suspect more catfish companies will be at the event next year.
A pre-event search of the word “catfish” in the ICAST App revealed 5 companies. By the end of the show, I had found a total of 17 booths with catfish related products and there were many more trolling motors, electronics, bait containers, and general boating accessories used by the catfish community. Below is a listing of the companies I found and talked to. I have also listed their websites or Facebook pages. Some are catfish specific and others are generic but applicable to catfishing. You are invited to view them and check out their products.
